We have an active Youth Ministry and invite all middle and high school students to join us in a variety of programs that build character and increase our growth in the Christian life. Please join us at our Youth Building adjacent to the church.
SCHOOL YEAR MEETING TIMES
Sunday Nights @ 6-7:30 p.m.
Wednesday Nights @ 5-7 p.m.
First UMC Youth Building
Join us on Sunday evenings from 6-7:30 p.m., when we share a meal and spend time studying the Bible. Each semester we pick one book to study in depth. Through this time together, our youth are given a chance to connect with God.
We meet Wednesday evenings, from 6-7:30 p.m., to have fun together in fellowship. We participate in a wide variety of fun activities, from attending movies and going to bowl, to sharing a meal and occasionally discussing special topics relevant to teens today, such as the Christian perspective on dating.
We never take a summer break! We continue to meet both Wednesdays and Sundays throughout the summer (with the exception of church holidays). Join us for fun activities ranging from hosting Bible School (for both our young community members and on three Wednesdays, for senior adults), to fellowship dinners, and from bowling to putt-putt golf and even a Texas Rangers game, just to name a few things. Even our Bible Studies are extra fun in the summer as they take place poolside!
Our youth group also takes part in our church-wide Wednesday Night Happenings program in the fall and spring. We delve into studies to address relevant topics for youth in their daily and spiritual lives. It’s also an opportunity for fun together and Christian fellowship with other young people.
Thanks to our proximity to Lakeview Camp and Retreat Center, we have the opportunity to take our youth to church camp twice during the year. We go for a week in June to summer camp and for a weekend in January for Mid-Winter camp. Each of these is a wonderful time of fun, worship and learning.
Our youth care a great deal about the members of our congregation and the community of Palestine as a whole. We take part in the Methodist Mission weekends throughout the year and go monthly to visit seniors in nursing homes throughout our community as well as members of our congregation who do not always find it easy to get to us. We also host the annual Easter party for children and a Valentine’s luncheon for single senior adults. We also lead a canned food drive for the holidays (that we kick off with a food scavenger hunt in our community) and take part in the Souper Bowl of Caring that corresponds with the Super Bowl each year.
In addition to our regular meeting times, we attend special events throughout the year, from a progressive Thanksgiving dinner to an evening in Old Bethlehem. Other special activities on our agenda? A Christmas concert, the Ice Show at the Gaylord Texan or a lock-in, to name a few.
